Root Canals
Most people think of root canals as painful procedures but in reality, they are indicated to get patients out of pain. When a tooth fractures or has a deep cavity that has reached the nerve, an infection can occur that leads to pain and an abscess if left untreated. Root canal treatment involves removing the infected tissue inside the nerve, and sealing it to prevent more bacteria from entering. Most of the time a crown is also recommended to protect the tooth from getting reinfected or fracturing.
